Dear Parents,
Greetings of Peace!
The blessed month of Ramadan is here! (Thursday, September 13).
With it comes the opportunity for spiritual inspiration, purification,
and devotion to God. Here at the school, Ramadan provides a wonderful
teaching environment for many lessons on fasting, self-discipline,
patience, giving to others, and much more. In the classroom and around
the school, students can feel the spirit of the month whether they are
too young to fast or can fast the whole day.
While some changes do
take place in this month, for the most part, the school’s curriculum and
activities will remain as usual to allow the teachers to cover their
yearly plan at a steady pace. We encourage parents to maintain a fairly
normal routine to facilitate their students’ concentration on homework
and other assignments.
Ramadan is also a
time for giving and for building our sense of community. Our two giving
drives begin with Ramadan: Homeless Shelter Drive and Eid Toy Drive.
Also, on Friday, September 28, you are invited to our
Back-to-School Family Iftar – a student-centered event that offers
families an enjoyable evening of Ramadan activities.
This year we decided
to move our Annual Benefit Dinner to a more permanent date – the first
Saturday in December. With Ramadan and the start of school coming so
close together, we felt that it would be very difficult to organize the
dinner in time. We hope that families will continue to be generous to
the school during Ramadan, and we look forward to everyone joining
together in December for a stupendous Benefit Dinner event.
Enclosed in this
mailing is important information on key dates for the month, some
guidelines for fasting, and details on upcoming school activities.
From all of us here
at New Horizon Pasadena, Ramadan Mubarak! We wish you a very joyous and
rewarding month of fasting.
Sincerely,
Amira Al-Sarraf
Head of School
